The third and final ODI of the three-match series between Afghanistan and Pakistan witnessed Afghan wicketkeeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz‘s stunning display of fielding prowess. Gurbaz struck a brilliant direct hit during the game to dismiss Pakistan batter Saud Shakeel.

Toss and Pakistan’s innings

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, the Pakistani side posted a competitive total of 268/8 in their allotted 50 overs. The innings was anchored by notable contributions from Mohammad Rizwan, who scored a well-crafted 67 off 79 deliveries. Meanwhile, Babar Azam also notched up 60 runs off 86 balls to help his team reach a decent total.

On the other hand, the fall of wickets at crucial junctures kept the Afghan bowlers in the game. Gulbadin Naib (2/36) and Fareed Ahmad Malik (2/70) were the chief destructors for Afghanistan and displayed a disciplined effort to keep the Pakistani batters in check. However, it was Gurbaz’s exceptional fielding moment that stole the spotlight.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz hits the bull’s eye

The turning point came during the 38th over when Shakeel nudged the ball towards the leg side with delicate placement in pursuit of changing the side. Gurbaz displayed remarkable agility and brilliant presence of mind to approach the ball quickly and gather it cleanly. The Aghan wicketkeeper then unleashed a direct hit on the stumps, hitting the bull’s eye as Shakeel was caught way out of his crease. The accuracy and speed of the throw left Shakeel with no chance to regain his ground, and the disheartened batter was forced to depart.

The precision and execution of Gurbaz’s direct hit highlighted his athleticism and awareness on the field. The 21-year-old was seen pumped up after the dismissal and was well-appreciated by his teammates.
