R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo hosted the final match of the Super Four stage between India and Bangladesh. While India already made it to the final, Bangladesh were eliminated after losing to Sri Lanka and Pakistan in the Super Four stage.

In the dead rubber on Friday, September 15, India and Bangladesh made as many as five changes each to their playing XIs. Virat Kohli was the biggest name missing from the list as he was rested alongside other star players like Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav.

Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bowl first. This was the first time India chased in the Super Four stage of the competition this year. The fielding was indifferent from India but Mohammed Shami and Shardul Thakur were quite good with the new ball. Bangladesh lost four wickets for 59 runs in 14 overs and were in all sorts of trouble.

However, a 101-run partnership between Shakib Al Hasan and Towhid Hridoy helped their team get to a stable platform. They lost three wickets for 33 runs at one stage and India were once again on the ascendancy. However, Nasum Ahmed and Mahedi Hasan showed commendable grit and determination to take Bangladesh to a decent score of 265/8 in 50 overs.

Debutant Tanzim Hasan Sakib dismissed Rohit Sharma and Tilak Varma with the new ball. India lost wickets at regular intervals as their batters couldn’t get accustomed to the difficult batting conditions. Shubman Gill, however, was class apart as he scored a brilliant 121 off 133 balls. He lost his wicket at a crucial stage but Axar Patel tried his best to take India home with a 34-ball 42. However, he lost his wicket in the penultimate over as India were bowled out for 259 with a ball to spare. Bangladesh won by six runs to end their Asia Cup campaign on a high.
