Cricket fans are abuzz as the World Cup approaches, slated from October 5 to November 19 in India. Anticipation swirls around squad choices, a topic of fervent discussion. Prior to the main event, India is gearing up for the Asia Cup. BCCI’s chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, has said that the World Cup teams will almost be the same as the Asia Cup lineup.
Notably, former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and former chief selector MSK Prasad have named their 15-member India squads for World Cup 2023 team in an interaction show on Star Sports. Their team includes stalwarts like Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, complemented by promising talents like Shubman Gill and KL Rahul.
However, while Ganguly chose pace all-rounder Shardul Thakur in his squad, Prasad excluded him and opted for a spin all-rounder in the form of Ravichandran Ashwin. Further, Prasad kept a choice between Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav, unlike Ganguly, who excluded the latter.
The expected Indian lineup for the World Cup is going to have a mix of young talent with experienced players and promises an exciting tournament. Players like Rohit, Gill, Kohli, and many others will be eager to don the Indian jersey to represent the nation on the global stage and bring the ICC trophy to India.
The tournament’s opening clash will feature defending champions England locking horns with the runners-up of the previous edition, New Zealand. The excitement surrounding this match is sure to set the tone for the entire event. England, Australia and the host, India are the main favourites to win the tournament but teams like Pakistan and New Zealand are capable of turning the odds.
India will start their campaign on October 8 against Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai while they will face Pakistan in arguably the most-anticipated clash of the tournament on October 14 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
