After a sloppy start in the Asia Cup 2023 against Pakistan in the opening game, Rohit Sharma made a stunning comeback as he hit back-to-back fifties in next two games. His ferocious knock of 56 against Pakistan in the Super 4-stage encounter contained 6 fours and 4 gigantic maximums.

The Indian skipper’s half-century in game against Pakistan has added him to an elite list of record. Rohit has surpassed Sachin Tendulkar‘s tally of most fifties in the Asia Cup by an Indian. He now stands as a player with the most fifties in the Asia Cup alongside former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara(8).

Rohit’s impeccable stroke play and ultra-high level of confidence have earned him praise from cricket fanatics all over the globe. Though he failed to capitalize against fast bowler Naseem Shah in the early overs of the innings, the right handed batter bounced back and delivered what was expected from him in the crucial match.

Rohit did not miss out on a single lose ball today: Ravi Shastri

Former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri has applauded Rohit Sharma for his marvellous batting display. Shastri praised Rohit’s intent and how he gathered himself to bounce back on the bowlers by smashing them all over the park.

“Rohit did not miss out on a single lose ball today, which showed that in spite of that good spell from the bowlers, the intent was that ‘anything lose, I’m going to hit it for a boundary or six,” Shastri was quoted as saying to Star Sports.

The former Indian head coach also hailed Naseem Shah, who troubled Rohit in the starting phase of the game.

“There was a 10-ball phase from Naseem Shah at the start that beat him. He was trying to lay bat on ball but he could not. He went through that period and every time he got an opportunity today with anything remotely loose, he hit it over the boundary or to the boundary,” Shastri added.

The crucial India vs Pakistan Super 4 encounter has been called due to rain and will resume on the reserve day (September 11). The Indians were batting at 147-2 in 24.1 overs as the rain interrupted the play.
