Speaking exclusively to Star Sports on Follow the Blues LIVE, Team India’s right-handed batsman, Suryakumar Yadav shared his role and approach to his gameplay “I always remain in top gear. I always feel excited when I am in the dugout because I eagerly wait for the time when I will go to bat. Also, if I get dismissed on the first ball, still I have no problem because my preparation and excitement inside the dugout remain the same. My heart rate becomes high when a wicket falls every time, thus, I always run into the crease because I feel good when my heart rate is high, it is in zone 5.
Whenever I play the first ball, I feel I should always be ready for anything. If I have to hit a four or six, that doesn’t matter to me because I have this set plan always in my mind whenever I go to bat. When I play one or two good shots or my running between the wickets is going well, then I feel I am in my zone and I can score some big, valuable runs for my team.”
India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar spoke on Suryakumar Yadav’s potential in the ODI format, he said “Surya Kumar Yadav is a very honest cricketer. A couple of things, firstly his return to ODIs where he got out thrice on the first delivery he faced against Australia. If the same scenario comes across ahead in the future where two or three wickets are down and Suryakumar Yadav has to bat, then he should focus on his defensive tactics because sometimes in the 50-over format, defensive tactics and preparation probably are handier for a batsman. As we witnessed, Virat Kohli is highly focused and practicing to take singles during the camp session.
This 50-overs format is a less exciting format of cricket for me because 60-70 percent of runs come by singles, doubles, and triples. It’s not a game of fours and sixes, where players need to focus and practice around it, and Suryakumar Yadav can manage it. The other thing that Suryakumar Yadav possesses is in IPL or T20 cricket format he scores runs at a strike rate of 200. His number of fours is always higher than sixes. He is somebody who likes to hit along with the ground. He likes to hit grounded shots and boundaries – fours and sixes but not just focusing on hitting sixes. Sky has the potential. It’s a matter of confidence and belief that he belongs here.”
