After a rather lackluster performance in the first game of the Asia Cup 2023 against arch-rivals Pakistan, the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma bounced back with a resounding performance versus Nepal, sending shock waves through the cricketing world. His astonishing knock of 74 runs, adorned with six fours and five towering sixes, not only sealed a crucial win for India but also etched his name in the annals of cricket history.

Rohit’s remarkable knock did more than just securing a victory; it propelled him into a league of his own. The 36-year-old became the first captain to amass over 1,000 runs in international cricket in 2023.

The Hitman has set his sights on an even loftier goal – breaking the record for the most number of sixes hit in international cricket. As it stands, Rohit occupies the second position in this prestigious list with an impressive 539 maximums to his name. The only cricketer ahead of him is the indomitable Chris Gayle, who hit 553 sixes in his illustrious career.

Now, Rohit has expressed his desire to break the record and mentioned that he never thought he would even come close to this milestone.

“I want to break Chris Gayle’s six-hitting record”: Rohit Sharma

“I want to break Chris Gayle’s six-hitting record. Never in my life I would have imagined that I will break the Chris Gayle’s record. It’s funny (flex muscles),” said the right handed batter as quoted by Indian Express.

Rohit also recalled how the coaches banned him from playing aerial shots during his junior days and advised to stick with the basics.

I am not a muscle guy but I like to hit the bowl hard. When I started playing cricket, I was told that timing is important. Aerial shots were a big no, We were told that you can play aerial shots. Basic was to keep your head intact, keep the bat close to your body and play the bowl along the carpet. If we used to play aerial shots, coach used to throw us out from the game,” Rohit added.
